I'm sorry I took so long to fix this, it was very early morning for me when this thread was posted.
, will no longer be a character in verification links. Although I do wonder what email client you were using, as gmail did not have an issue with displaying , in links.
Edit: To clarify, email verification is primarily to stop the many many spambot accounts that keep registering
